Indonesia Must Take Action About Israel's Action At Al-Aqsa Mosque, Observer: Moreover, Prabowo's Relationship With The Palestinian Ambassador Is Close

JAKARTA - The government has been asked to take a stance regarding the violence between Israeli police and Palestinians that occurred at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, Jerusalem. Moreover, so far the closeness between the Indonesian Minister of Defense Prabowo Subianto and the Palestinian Ambassador has been established.

"Don't forget that the relationship between the Indonesian Defense Minister and the Palestinian Ambassador is also quite close," said Universita Muhammadiyah academic Surya Vandiantara to reporters, Saturday, April 16.

Not only that, Prabowo has also expressed a commitment if the Indonesian government supports Palestinian independence. This, continued Surya, was said by the former Danjen Kopassus when he received an honorary visit from the Palestinian Ambassador to Indonesia Zuhair SM Al Shun.

The meeting of these two figures, he said, was a continuation of the 'The 17th International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) Dialogue 2021' Dialogue Forum in Bahrain, 20 November 2021.

"From my record, in February 2022, the Minister of Defense, Prabowo Subianto, stated Indonesia's commitment to support Palestinian independence. He conveyed this support directly when he received the honorary visit of the Palestinian Ambassador to Indonesia, Zuhair SM Al Shun, at the Ministry of Defense office," he said.

Seeing the closeness of this relationship, it is appropriate for Indonesia to act against the repressive actions experienced by the Palestinians. Moreover, as a result of this incident, 150 people were injured.

In addition, Indonesia's position as the United Nations Security Council as well as the President of the G20 is deemed appropriate to raise the issue of violence.

"Today's incident where the Zionist police again carried out repressive behavior against Palestinians who were originally going to pray at the Al-Aqsa Mosque must be immediately addressed by the Indonesian government. Moreover, Indonesia's current position as a member of the United Nations Security Council as well as the President of the G20," explained Sun.

As previously reported, hundreds of Palestinians were injured in clashes with Israeli riot police inside Jerusalem's Al-Aqsa Mosque compound on Friday, marking a new chapter of increased violence that has raised fears of a return to last year's clashes.

Most Palestinian injuries were caused by rubber bullets, stun grenades and beatings with police batons, said the Palestinian Red Crescent, in the most sensitive location in the decades-old Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Israeli security forces are currently on high alert, following a series of deadly street attacks across the country over the past two weeks. The confrontation at the Al-Aqsa compound in Jerusalem's walled Old City poses the risk of a larger, wider clash like last year's Gaza war.
