Tanjungbalai Police Arrest 11 Illegal PMIs Returning From Malaysia

MEDAN - Tanjungbalai Police Polairud Unit personnel in collaboration with the Polairud Directorate of the North Sumatra Police arrested a boat containing 11 illegal Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) returning from Malaysia to Indonesia.

The Head of Public Relations of the North Sumatra Police, Commissioner Hadi Wahyudi, said that at that time the Polairud Sat personnel were patrolling the Tanjungbalai Asahan waters using KP II-2004 and KP II-2022.

While on patrol, personnel saw an unnamed ship with a Mitsubishi PS 100.4 engine. The GT 10 cylinder which was sailing in Tanjung Jumpul from the sea to the Asahan waters and immediately stopped the ship.

"Then officers conducted an inspection and found 15 people on board, consisting of 11 illegal PMIs and four crew members without complete documents who returned from Malaysia to Indonesia", he said, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, April 13.

Hadi explained that the illegal PMIs entered Indonesia after working in Malaysia, some of whom were fishermen, shop traders, and construction workers in the Sikimcam area of Malaysia.

Only by paying 1,400 ringgit, the illegal PMI was put on a Malaysian trawler. Then, in the middle of the border of the Malaysian-Indonesian water, the fishing boats picked them up.

"The illegal PMIs and the ship carrying them were brought to the Head of the North Sumatra Police's Ditpolairud for legal processing", said Commissioner Hadi.
