Menkumham Yasonna: I Encourage Medan Residents To Be More Creative

JAKARTA - Minister of Law and Human Rights (Menkumham) Yasonna H. Laoly encourages the public, especially residents of Medan City, North Sumatra Province, to register intellectual property online.

"I encourage Medan residents to be more creative, but what is more important is the intellectual property aspect, namely registering your intellectual property online," Yasonna said during the "Yasonna Hearing" activity, in Grand Andaliman, Medan, North Sumatra, Tuesday.

According to Yasonna, it is important to register a person's intellectual property because it is not only of economic value for each individual owner, but also can advance the country's economy.

"Based on research, countries that have intellectual property rights registrations have a positive correlation with the economic progress of a nation. Countries that have a lot of intellectual property, whether in the form of inventions, music, patent intellectual property such as industrial designs, or trademarks , the better the economic growth," said Yasonna.

Therefore, he continued, the Government through the Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DJKI) of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) has provided a forum to facilitate the registration of intellectual property belonging to the public through online registration.

In fact, DJKI has designated 2022 as the National Copyright Year and launched Automatic Copyright Registration Approval (POP HC) which speeds up the registration process in less than 10 minutes.

Applicants for registration or intellectual property protection can access the dgip.go.id page.

This page can be used, either to find out more details related to intellectual property, make a new application, extend an application, make a service complaint, or submit a violation.

On the same occasion, Yasonna appealed to the public, especially the young people of Medan, not to underestimate their ability to build a business.

"Don't underestimate your ability. If you want to create a company or trade, it may be small at first, but it can become famous," he said.
