Terawan's Dismissal Process From IDI Started In 2018 And Has Been Given The Opportunity To Defend Himself

JAKARTA - The decision to dismiss Dr Terawan from the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI) went through a long process. Even the IDI Medical Ethics Honorary Council (MKEK) has given Terawan the opportunity to defend himself.

"The process has been going on since the 30th IDI congress in Samarinda in 2018, but at that time the decision had not been implemented due to special considerations," said MKEK-IDI Chair Dr Djoko Widyarto JS, Thursday, March 31, quoted from Antara.

He said, PB IDI has also facilitated the opportunity for Terawan to be able to defend himself on charges of violating the code of ethics.

Djoko alluded to the Medical Practice Law Number 29 of 2004, it is written in Article 50 that the professionalism of doctors includes three components. First is skill, second is knowledge and professional attitude.

"Professional attitude is medical ethics. How do we understand that every profession is always marked by a professional code of ethics. It is read out when taking the oath," he explained.

As a professional organization, continued Djoko, IDI also has an Indonesian medical code of ethics which was ratified in 2012 through taking oaths and promises.

"There are 12 points in the doctor's oath, this is very typical for Indonesia because the oath of doctors outside Indonesia does not have the last sentence, namely I will obey Indonesian medicine," he said.

The 2012 Indonesian medical code of ethics does not only apply to Indonesian doctors, but also applies to foreign doctors throughout Indonesia, Djoko added.

"This corridor is actually the guideline for every medical profession in Indonesia, namely the doctor's oath. That's what we currently hold as signs that we must obey together," he said.

The IDI XXXI congress in Banda Aceh on 22-25 March 2022 has decided a number of recommendations, namely the Transformation of the New IDI/IDI Reborn, Improving the Quality of Services and the Medical Profession, IDI Becomes a Strategic Partner of the Government and Synergizes with Related Stakeholders, and finally the Permanent Dismissal of DR Terawan Agus Putranto as a Member of IDI.
