National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Reminds Police Officers To Continue To Improve Themselves To Realize Public Hope

JAKARTA - The National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, emphasized his commitment to realizing people's expectations for the National Police to become a beloved institution.

This was conveyed by the Head of the Public Relations Division of the National Police Inspector General Dedi Prasetyo when reading Listyo's remarks at the book review event "Jalan Presisi Kapolri" at Paramadina University as reported by Antara, Monday, March 29.

Dedi said the thoughts of the National Police Chief in the book were set out as a reflection in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"The challenge since the beginning of my leadership has been to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic and the impact it has on health, economic, social, and educational aspects," said Dedi reading the Indonesian National Police Chief's remarks.

Dedi explained that the reflection in the midst of the pandemic aims to further improve the Bhayangkara Corps, especially since there are still a number of homeworks that have not been accomplished.

According to him, the homework includes increasing synergy, improving law enforcement processes, and resolving human rights issues.

"(All things that have not been achieved) we will continue to make targets to be achieved," said Dedi.

The former Central Kalimantan Police Chief said that the reforms would continue because police services were still found to be unresponsive, selective, and convoluted in the field which could create hatred in the community.

Therefore, he said, the National Police with public reports must be able to become an institution that accommodates all the expectations of the community.

"The National Police opens the widest possible space to accommodate all criticisms, suggestions, and input, either through the National Police or discussions like today, so that the Police can improve," said Dedi.

Dedi said that the National Police has four policy pillars, 16 priority programs, 51 activities, 177 plans, and eight commitments in carrying out their duties and functions.

Transformation is an important thing that is needed by the Police to implement all of that, he said.

The transformations that have been carried out, said Dedi, include the application of restorative justice, which resulted in 11,811 cases being completed in 2021 without wasting a lot of time and energy.

Structural changes with the Liquidation Police program were also made to 1,062 sector police officers (polsek) who now no longer have the authority to investigate.

"So that restorative justice for the settlement of cases can be carried out," he said.

On the internal side, the National Police recruits talent-based members in the intellectual, spiritual, and scientific fields, so that they can improve services to the public, said Dedi.

With all these steps, he said, the National Police hoped to support government policies in national economic development, such as improving the quality of public services, overseeing government policies to accelerate national development, and supporting regional expansion for social equity.

"Actions in dealing with the pandemic have also been given, starting from escorting the 5M policy, spraying in public spaces, to being at the forefront to accelerate vaccination to achieve herd immunity," said Dedi.
