MIMIKA - The Mimika Regency Health Office, Papua Province reported that throughout 2021 there were 298 residents of the area infected with HIV/AIDS. With details of HIV cases as many as 95 people and AIDS as many as 203 people.
The Head of the Control and Prevention of Infectious Diseases at the Mimika Health Office, Obet Tekege, said that compared to the previous year, the number of new cases of HIV/AIDS in Mimika in 2021 had decreased.
In previous years, the average finding of new HIV/AIDS cases in Mimika was above 300 to 400 cases.
"In previous years, the number of people doing testing was much more, because they received a lot of information about efforts to control HIV-AIDS cases. Meanwhile, in 2021, along with the increase in COVID-19 cases, our concentration will be more on dealing with prevention and treatment efforts. controlling COVID-19 cases," he said in Timika, reported by Antara, Friday, March 18.
During 2021, the number of Mimika residents who carried out HIV/AIDS examinations on 14 VCT (Voluntary Consulting and Testing) services was 24,090 people. Meanwhile, from 2005 to 2021, the number of residents who have conducted consultations and consulting services on HIV/AIDS testing in Mimika was 338,316 people.
Obet said that the largest group infected with HIV/AIDS in Mimika was the productive age group, namely 25-29 years old with 20 HIV cases and 44 AIDS cases, followed by 30-34 years old with 23 HIV cases and 39 AIDS cases. or as many as 62 people.
The number of new patients who started taking Anti-Retro Viral (ARV) drugs in Mimika in 2021 was 262 people, consisting of 93 people with HIV and 169 people with AIDS.
Meanwhile, the total number of HIV/AIDS cases found in Mimika from 1996 to 2021 was 6,662 people, with details of 3,336 people living with HIV and 3,326 people with AIDS.
