JAKARTA – Dare To Be The Next Superstar (DTBTNS) Season 2 has entered the judging round. Hundreds of works from the music and visual art categories have arrived at the jury's table for the music and visual arts contest. In addition to the high interest, the works of the DTBTNS Season 2 participants are considered to be more attractive, varied, and of high quality.
Supermusic representative, Nathaniel W Utomo said, in the judging phase there will be a selection process and curation of the participants' works by the jury consisting of; Rekti Yoewono, Ronald Steven, and Nadia Yustina in the music category, and Oom Leo, Popo Mangun, Hana Madness, Bunga Fatia, and Streoflow in the visual art category. Of the hundreds of finalists' works, they will be curated and will participate in coaching sessions with experts in each category.
"We highly appreciate every work that has been submitted for this DTBTNS Season 2. Even though we extended the submission process due to the pandemic situation, this actually gave rise to more interesting and quality works in each category. We hope that the judging process with the experts will be able to provide various positive insights for the finalists,” Nathaniel said when contacted on Tuesday, March 15.
Rekti Yoewono, who was appointed as one of the judges in the music category, also expressed high expectations for the finalists. According to the vocalist of The SIGIT, the increasingly varied works of the finalists are expected to be a breath of fresh air for the world of Indonesian music in the future. He said, these talented young musicians need to be encouraged to be more widely known and have the opportunity to develop.
“The large number of submissions could be due to the increased courage of music activists to present their work. I think that's a good thing, especially in DTBTNS Season 2, the work is getting more and more varied. As I recall, last year's DTBTNS was dominated by pop music, pop punk and rock. This year, I noticed that there were a lot of metal bands, and even electronic music,” said Rekti.
Rekti added, the increasingly diverse and quality works in Dare To Be The Next Superstar Season 2, made the judges challenged and become extra selective in curating the best works from the best. It is also undeniable that there will be a tough debate in the jury seats.
"Quite a challenge for the judges, I guess. I try not to be biased towards the genre of music that I like. Fortunately, there are many interesting talents who have the potential to be enjoyed by the public, regardless of the genre of music," said Rekti.
JAKARTA - Oom Leo, who was a judge in the visual art category, said the same thing. The man whose real name is Narpati Awangga admits that he has to drain his energy and mind when assessing visual art works whose quality is above average.
“The enthusiasm of the participants was extraordinary. Many are quite attention-grabbing both in terms of technical, concept and idea, as well as an amazing artistic. It's not just one or two works, there are many that make it difficult for me to choose the candidate for the DTBTNS Season 2 winner," said Oom Leo.
In the judging phase, apart from the curation process, there will also be a coaching session where the judges will share their knowledge and experiences with the finalists of DTBTNS Season 2. they.
In the next coaching stage, Rekti personally will place more emphasis on performance because it is an important point for a performer. Starting from how to present yourself on stage, to how to communicate appropriately with the audience. Oom Leo tends to focus on the initial process of cultivating a visual art work.
“Development of the basic concepts and ideas of the creation of works. As for technical matters, it doesn't seem like there's much to delve deeper into. Because the average skills of the finalists are already very good," said Oom Leo
Meanwhile, a duo from Jakarta named Wantang, one of the participants from the music category said that DTBTNS Season 2 is the right event for newcomer musicians to become the next rising star. According to this musical group consisting of Bintang Gemilau and Ridwan Hafidz, DTBTNS is a place for aspirations, a means of communication and expression for young artists, especially in the field of music & visual art.
