Tanjungpinang Has Highest Active COVID-19 Cases In Riau Islands

TANJUNGPINANG - The Riau Islands COVID-19 Handling Task Force recorded active cases of COVID-19 in Tanjungpinang City currently reaching 756 people and this number is the highest in the province.

The daily chairman of the Riau Islands COVID-19 Handling Task Force, Eko Sumbaryadi, said that the number of active COVID-19 cases in Tanjungpinang was 756, a decrease of 30 people compared to the previous day.

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Tanjungpinang is the highest compared to Batam's 517 people, even though the population of Batam reaches 1,169,648 people (data from the Riau Islands Population Service in Semester I 2021), and Tanjungpinang only 227,069 people.

"Active cases in Batam before reached 2,000 people, the highest compared to other districts and cities. Then many residents recovered from COVID-19, and the number of new cases was relatively small," said Eko in Tanjungpinang, as reported by Antara, Sunday, March 13.

Eko revealed the number of active cases in Bintan Regency was 523 people, Karimun 221 people, Anambas Islands 55 people, Lingga Regency 30 people, and Natuna Regency 65 people.

While the number of residents in Riau Islands who have recovered from COVID-19 has increased by 314 people, bringing the total number since the March 2020 pandemic to date has reached 59,655 people, spread across Batam 114 people, Tanjungpinang 87 people, Bintan 48 people, Karimun 36 people, Anambas nine people, Lingga 11 people, and Natuna nine people.

The number of people who died after being infected with COVID-19 increased by four to 1,850 people. They are two residents of Batan, while Tanjungpinang and Karimun, one each.

The number of residents in Riau Islands newly infected with COVID-19 increased by 184 people bringing the total number to 63,672 people, spread over 22 people in Batam, 58 people in Tanjungpinang, 46 in Bintan people, Karimun 30 people, Anambas one person, Lingga 17 people and Natuna 20 people.

"There are five regencies and cities in Riau Islands in the Orange Zone, only Natuna and Lingga in the Yellow Zone," he said.

He appealed to residents to implement a healthy lifestyle and health protocols consistently. Residents are also asked not to be in crowded places to prevent the transmission of COVID-19.

"Hopefully, no more residents will be infected with the virus," he hoped.
