M 5.3 Earthquake In Bayah Banten, Shakes Hardly In Ciputat, Feels Until Ciancur

JAKARTA - An earthquake with a magnitude (M) of 53 shook the Bayah area, Banten, Saturday, March 12 at noon. The earthquake has a depth of 10 kilometers.

The intensity of this earthquake was quite high in the city of Tengerang and the city of South Tengerang. However, it felt like only a moment.

"The shaking was pretty big, just not for long," said Iwan, a resident of RE Martadinata, Cipayung, Ciputat, South Tengerang City, to VOI, Saturday, March 12.

According to data from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), this earthquake was also felt in a number of areas in West Java with different vibration levels.

"Feeled (MMI Scale): III-IV Pelabuhan Ratu, II Tangerang City, II-III Sukabumi City, II-III Munjul, III-IV Malingping, III-IV Cinangka, III-IV Bayah, III Lebak, III Panggarangan, II -III Tanara, II-III Anyer, II-III Cianjur, II Serpong," the BMKG wrote on its official website, Bmkg.go.id, Saturday, March 12.

This earthquake appeared at 12.31 WIB. With the epicenter 41 kilometers southwest of Bayah Banten. While the coordinates of the earthquake are 7.19 south latitude and 105.98 east longitude.

BMKG on its website reported that this earthquake did not have the potential for a tsunami. The BMKG appealed to the community around the earthquake point to stay alert for aftershocks that might occur.

"Be careful of aftershocks that may occur," said the BMKG.
