PBSI Welcomes Relaxation Of COVID-19 Rules Ahead Of Indonesia Masters And Indonesia Open

JAKARTA – PBSI welcomes the government's policy of easing the COVID-19 rules. It will have a positive impact on badminton tournaments in Indonesia.

As is known, two prestigious badminton tournaments will be held in Indonesia in June. The two championships in question are the Indonesia Masters and the Indonesia Open.

"The presence of the audience back into the arena of this match will certainly greatly support the success of a badminton tournament. Because we know that the audience is an important element in any sporting event," said Head of Public Relations and Media PP PBSI Broto Happy in a statement received.

The Indonesia Master and Indonesia Open, which are usually held at Istora Senayan, Jakarta, had to be moved to Bali at the end of 2021 due to the pandemic. At that time these two events were held in a bubble as part of the Indonesia Badminton Festival together with the BWF World Tour.

This year, the two prestigious events will return to Istora. Along with the government also issued a policy of relaxing the COVID-19 rules so as to provide fresh air for organizers.

"I certainly really hope that the Indonesia Masters and Indonesia Open tournaments can be attended by spectators again. Of course, by still adhering to health protocols and complying with government regulations," said Broto.

Previously, the government had allowed all sports competitions in the PPKM area level 1-3 to be attended by spectators. These provisions are stated in the Instruction of the Minister of Home Affairs (Inmendagri) Number 15 of 2022 dated March 7, 2022.

To note, Jakarta is currently at PPKM level 2. Thus, the chance for the Indonesia Master and Indonesia Open to be attended by spectators is very large.

However, potential spectators who wish to attend live watching sporting events must meet several conditions. The two main requirements stated by the Ministry of Home Affairs are that prospective spectators must have received a third or booster dose of vaccination and use the PeduliLindung application.
