Prada Suspends Retail Business In Russia Due To Ukraine Tragedy
JAKARTA - Italy-based Jenama Prada has suspended its retail business in Russia. This is done following the steps of other well-known brands that have announced similar decisions.
"Our main concerns are with colleagues and families affected by the tragedy in Ukraine and we will continue to support them," Prada said.
Over the past few days, various services and brands have decided not to operate in Russia. Lodging platform Airbnb and travel agency in the Bookin network have stopped operating in Russia, the Michelin Guide has suspended all restaurant recommendations in Russia.
Likewise, Google stopped selling online advertising in Russia, this also applies to other platforms that belong to their group, one of which is YouTube. Spotify has closed its Russia branch indefinitely, Netflix has suspended all future projects and acquisitions from Russia amid its invasion of Ukraine, PayPal's on-line payment platform has stopped accepting new users from Russia.
The impact of this interstate conflict was also felt by the Russian delegation at international events. The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) has announced that it will suspend participation of the official Russian delegation for this year's event, but will welcome independent Russian filmmakers.
Russian society has also been affected on the entertainment side, as Hollywood studios Paramount Pictures and Universal have suspended the film's release in Russia. Disney, Sony, and Warner Bros. also announced that they would not be releasing their new films such as "Turning Red", "Morbius", and "The Batman" to Russian theaters.
