Deadly Accident On Dupak Surabaya Toll Road That Kills 3 People, Perpetrators Take Over Bus Steering 'Want To Die Together'
SURABAYA - The number of victims of accidents involving buses and trucks on the Dupak Toll Road in Surabaya City has increased, from two people to three people who died.
"There is one more victim, namely a bus passenger named Burniat," said Head of Highway Patrol Unit 2 of the East Java Regional Police Traffic Directorate, AKP Sigit Indra, to reporters in Surabaya, reported by Antara, Saturday, March 5.
Thus, a total of three victims died, namely the truck driver, truck assistant and one bus passenger.
According to witnesses compiled by the police, the victim, Burniat, was one of the pilgrims who allegedly took over the steering wheel from the bus driver and caused the accident.
From the data collected, Burniat since departing from Palembang behaved like a normal person, but showed unnatural behavior when the group left Sunan Ampel's grave for Jombang.
Based on the testimony of witnesses from bus passengers, said Sigit, he was suspected of being depressed and on the bus trying to take control of the steering wheel.
"He said he wanted to die together," said AKP Sigit
Burniat was rushed to the hospital, but his life could not be saved and was declared dead.
Previously, there was an accident between a bus with police number D-7610-AT carrying a group of pilgrims from Palembang, South Sumatra and a Colt Diesel truck carrying plastic pellets with police number W-9948-Z.
The incident occurred at around 11.45 WIB at KM 4,400 of the Dupak - Tanjung Perak Toll Road, Surabaya.
In this incident, apart from the three deaths, four people suffered minor injuries and two people (the driver and the bus driver) had to receive intensive care due to serious injuries.
According to AKP Sigit, the group had just made a pilgrimage from the Tomb of Sunan Ampel Surabaya, and would then head to Jombang, East Java.
"However, suddenly at KM 4,400 of the Dupak - Tanjung Perak Surabaya Toll Road, a pilgrim tried to seize control of the steering wheel from the bus driver. It seems that a pilgrim who took over the steering wheel is experiencing depression," he said.
The bus driver tried to maintain the steering, but was unable to maintain it so the bus turned around and hit a truck traveling in the opposite direction.
