Indonesian Basketball National Team Focuses On Targeting Tickets For The FIBA World Cup 2023 At The FIBA Asia Cup 2022

JAKARTA – The Indonesian national basketball team has begun to focus on preparing to hunt for tickets to the FIBA World Cup 2023 through the FIBA Asia Cup 2022. This is after the opportunity to qualify through qualification has closed.

Rajko Toroman's squad is currently still in the standings in Group C of the 2023 FIBA World Cup Qualifiers in the Asian zone. This position was the result of the two recent defeats that Indonesia suffered, respectively, from Saudi Arabia and Jordan on February 24 and 27.

"Of course it takes more mature and longer preparation to make it more optimal. We believe we can do better, especially from here we get two fresh players Yudha Saputra and Muhammad Arighi for the FIBA Asia Cup later," said Rajko in a statement received by VOI.

The Indonesian basketball squad still has two games remaining in the third window in July. Abraham Damar Grahita and friends are scheduled to face Saudi Arabia and Jordan again.

However, Rajko admits that the most realistic hunt for tickets to the 2023 FIBA World Cup is to maximize the 2022 FIBA Asia Cup. This event will be held at Istora Senayan, Jakarta from 12 to 24 July.

"We do have two games left in Jakarta, but it won't help us much going to the World Cup. Our current target is to focus on the FIBA Asia Cup for the 2023 FIBA World Cup," said Rajko.

Indonesia will host the 2023 World Cup with the Philippines and Japan. However, Indonesia did not automatically qualify for the event.

If they fail to pass the qualification route, the Red and White team can still qualify, but must at least be ranked eighth of the 16 teams that will later play in the 2022 FIBA Asia Cup. In this event, Indonesia will face Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and defending champion Australia in the preliminary round. .
