Prabowo Subianto's Reason For Rejecting Discourse On Postponing The 2024 Election
JAKARTA - General chairman of the Gerindra Party Prabowo Subianto rejected the discourse of postponing the 2024 General Election (Pemilu) which is currently in the spotlight.
Through his spokesman, Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak, Prabowo said this step was a form of respecting the constitution and maintaining a healthy democracy in the country.
"Regarding the discourse on postponing the 2024 General Election, Pak Prabowo Subianto stated that he respects our constitution and wants to continue to maintain our constitution and maintain a healthy democracy," Dahnil said in a video statement to reporters, Tuesday, March 1.
Prabowo is currently continuing to communicate with various parties to discuss the discourse on postponing this election. Dahnil said this step was carried out with various figures.
"Pak Prabowo also continues to communicate and stay in touch with other political figures from both political parties and other figures," he said.
For information, the issue of postponing the election was first raised by the Head of BKPM Bahlil Lahadalia. This was conveyed by Bahlil after absorbing voices from businessmen.
Then, this discourse was re-introduced by the General Chair of the PKB Muhaimin Iskandar last week proposing the 2024 Election to be postponed for 1-2 years in order to maintain the momentum of the national economic recovery.
Muhaimin's proposal was welcomed by the General Chairman of PAN, Zulkifli Hasan. He openly supports the discourse that the 2024 General Election is postponed due to economic reasons, the pandemic, and people's satisfaction with the government's performance which is believed to be high.
In addition, a similar proposal was also submitted by the General Chairperson of the Golkar Party, Airlangga Hartarto. He admitted that he received aspirations from farmers in Libo Jaya Village, Siak Regency who wanted the continuation of the government of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).
"We capture the aspiration about the desire for a sustainable policy and there is also the aspiration that the same policy can continue. Of course, this request was not answered by the Coordinating Minister because the Coordinating Minister had answered the palm oil business," said Airlangga in an official statement.
Airlangga, who is also the General Chair of the Golkar Party, stated that he must be ready to accept this aspiration. "Because we have hats from political parties, and members of the Indonesian House of Representatives are present here, therefore we absorb the aspirations of the people from Siak Regency, especially planters and farmers. Because we are general chairmen of political parties, it is our job to absorb people's aspirations," he said.
