Russian Geopolitics Does Not Affect Oil Refinery Construction In Tuban, Ministry Of Energy And Mineral Resources: Progress Is Fairly Good, In Land Acquisition Stage

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) stated that Russia's geopolitical tensions will not affect the plan to build a new refinery in Tuban, East Java.

The Tuban refinery is a joint project between PT Pertamina (Persero) and a Russian company called Rosneft. This refinery was built with a processing capacity of 300 thousand barrels per day which will produce 30 million liters of fuel oil per day for gasoline and diesel types.

"We have not seen this effect on the Rosneft project in Tuban," said Director General of Oil and Gas at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Tutuka Ariadji in a statement quoted by Antara, Tuesday, February 22.

In addition, this refinery will also produce four million liters of avtur per day and petrochemical production of 4.25 million tons per year.

Tutuka assessed that Rosneft's commitment to the Tuban refinery project was quite good. He admitted that the stages for the construction of the refinery were long and currently still in the study stage and land acquisition is in accordance with the set targets. ," he said. The Tuban refinery project is a strategic project because the construction of an oil refinery will be integrated with petrochemicals. The construction of the refinery is aimed at realizing national energy security, meeting domestic needs and reducing imports.

In addition, the government has also provided domestic gas allocations and facilitation to facilitate licensing. Until the end of December 2021, the progress of the Tuban refinery project has reached 62.77 percent in the design preparation stage. Pertamina claims this figure has exceeded the initial target of 56.45 percent.

The preparation of the technical design is a crucial phase in the construction of the refinery, because from this stage the complete design and specifications of the refinery will be obtained as a basis for continuing the project.
