Bobby Nasution Hopes GMNI Grows Nationalism To Strengthen Unity
MEDAN - Medan Mayor Bobby Nasution asked the Indonesian National Student Movement (GMNI) to foster nationalism for the young generation of Indonesia to increase unity and integrity.
"Through this GMNI national consolidation, we really hope that a sense of nationalism can be achieved well among the nation's young generation, especially in the Medan City area," Bobby said in Medan, Monday, February 21.
He said this after opening the national consolidation of GMNI, which was attended by the Director of Poldasu Dirbinmas Kombes Pol Sofyan Hidayat, and the Chairperson of the GMNI DPP for Political Affairs Maman Silaban at Wisma Benteng Medan.
Since the establishment of GMNI, he continued, the organization has a long history with the concept initiated by President Soekarno, namely marhanism aimed at ensuring the achievement of nationalism.
The mayor said, through activities filled with a national seminar "Towards a Demographic Bonus", of course, it can be realized if nationalism is strengthened, in addition to the foundation of unity and integrity.

"But the demographic bonus can be a disaster, if nationalism is not strengthened. Because in the future there will be many things that can damage the integrity of the nation," said Bobby.
The mayor also appreciated making Medan City a place for GMNI national consolidation which would have a positive impact on the capital city of North Sumatra Province.
"On behalf of the Medan City Government, we thank you that this meeting was held in Medan City. Hopefully, it will have a good impact on economic growth, because the participants come from outside the North Sumatra Province," he said.
His party asked GMNI to support government programs in the midst of a pandemic, including following health protocols and accelerating vaccinations to suppress the spread of COVID-19.
"We hope that GMNI will play a role in the vaccination program so that the entire community is protected and suppresses the spread of the Coronavirus," Bobby explained.
