The Relocation Of The Capital City Must Be Continuous, Don't Stop At The End Of Jokowi's Term Of Office

JAKARTA - The Chairperson of the University of Indonesia Alumni Association, Andre Rahadian, reminded that the project of moving the country's capital city (IKN) to East Kalimantan must be continued until the next government.

“Don't let this become a project that cannot be continued, especially at the end of the government. We hope for the sustainability of the IKN project. The preparations at the beginning are ripe," Andre said in a written statement in Jakarta, Sunday, February 20, as reported by Antara.

Andre emphasized ILUNI UI's commitment to overseeing the process of transferring IKN so that it runs according to the corridors of legislation and national development goals. ILUNI UI is also ready to provide input, one of which is through policy paper recommendations from discussions from experts.

Head of the ILUNI UI Policy Center, M Jibriel Avessina, added that there was concern for the process of the presence of the new capital city. The process of passing the IKN law is considered to be very fast.

In addition, participation from the community is relatively minimal, and there are polemics over regulations. He asked that from a technical point of view, everything needed to be carefully monitored and monitored.

However, Jibriel appreciates the spirit of moving the capital city as a form of an Indonesia-centric development pattern that needs to be optimally supported.

"The construction of the new capital city is not just a technical matter, but also an effort to maintain our national cohesion in the future," said Jibriel.

Meanwhile, the Minister of National Development Planning/Head of the 2014-2015 National Development Planning Agency and Founder of the Indonesia 2033 Vision Team, Andrinof Achir Chaniago, assured that the idea of moving the capital city policy had been implemented correctly.

"If you want to sue a big idea, please collect critical notes, accumulate them, then compare them with positive reasons for proposing this idea. Don't just technical reasons, speculation, then reject IKN recommendations," said Andrinof.

Andrinof also emphasized that Jakarta and its surroundings are still a magnet for urbanization. Population data for urbanization shows that the Jabodetabek population growth rate reaches 4.5 percent per year. Various sciences are considered no longer effective in solving Jakarta's problems such as flooding or other basic needs of the population.

“One of the answers to fix Jakarta is to reduce the burden. Then Jakarta will be easier to organize into a quality city. Jabodetabek is easier to organize into a quality mega-urban area and the island of Java is easier to organize if you change the pattern of population migration," said Andrinof.

Furthermore, Andrinof emphasized that the IKN plan is the main movement in solving problems that occur in Java. The location of IKN is in the middle of Indonesia and on unproductive land, most of which is already controlled by the state. This makes planning easier because it is built on sparsely populated land.

"The effect of equity, justice, as well as the function to attract satellite cities and industrial estate plans that have been stagnant for a long time, may grow," said Andrinof again.
