Sri Mulyani: 2023 State Budget Aims For 5.3 - 5.9 Percent Economic Growth

JAKARTA - Minister of Finance, Sri Mulyani, reported the results of her meeting with President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) after the Plenary Cabinet Session at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta. In a virtual press conference, the state treasurer said that the government had opened a discussion on the design of the 2023 State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN).

According to her, the government is optimistic that next year's economic conditions will be better in line with stronger pandemic control measures. He also said that the growth rate would be even faster in 2023.

"We hope that in the 2023 state budget, economic growth will be in the range of 5.3 percent to 5.9 percent", she said on Wednesday, February 16.

The Minister of Finance revealed that several driving factors are the basis for the government to set a high growth rate.

First, the pandemic condition is starting to gradually return to normal conditions as evidenced by the 2021 Gross Domestic Product (GDP) level which has exceeded the level before the pandemic occurred.

"Reforms in the health sector will be very important, both regarding medical devices and in terms of implementation, which are important to improve", she said.

Second, is the reform of investment and trade. For this sector, the Minister of Finance explained that the transformation of manufacturing is needed to become the locomotive of economic recovery.

"And the third is the awareness of the green economy, where the economic potential that comes from carbon and renewable energy technology is expected to be a new source of growth", she said.
