Police Failed Smuggling Of 20 Illegal TKI Candidates To Malaysia, 2 People Made Suspects

JAKARTA - Two suspects who smuggled illegal Indonesian Migrant Workers (TKI) from Tanjung Balai City to Malaysia were charged with Law (UU) Number 18 of 2017 concerning the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers.

"The two TKI smugglers are MIS (40) residents of Sukamaju Village, Tanjung Tiram District, Batubara Regency who act as searchers for prospective TKI, and YAS (35) residents of Ujungkubu Village, Nibung Hangus District, Batubara Regency as an introduction for TKI to Malaysia," said the Head of Tanjungbalai Police, Grand Commissioner Adjutant Triyadi, in a written statement, Sunday, February 13.

Triyadi said the two mafias smuggled illegal migrant workers were arrested by the Tanjungbalai Police Satreskrim personnel in Hamlet VI Ujung Kubu, Nibung Hangus District, Batubara Regency, Tuesday, February 8, at around 22.15 western Indonesia time.

The arrests began with a raid on the TKI shelter in Neighborhood V, Sijambi Village, Datuk Bandar District, Tanjung Balai City.

"From the house, officers arrested 20 prospective illegal migrant workers who would be dispatched to Malaysia by sea, namely 13 men and 7 women from various regions in North Sumatra," he said.

The police chief stated that the results of the interrogation revealed that the MIS suspect confessed on Tuesday, February 1, at around 22.00 WIB. He gave a female TKI candidate, Lidia Anggraini, who was to be sent to Malaysia without being accompanied by legal documents through an agent named Yasir.

The personnel of the Tanjungbalai Police Criminal Investigation Unit conducted an investigation to the Batubara Regency and managed to apprehend the suspect Yasir.

"From the suspect's hands, officers confiscated evidence in the form of a Vivo 1811 mobile phone, a black Samsung Galaxy J5 Prime, and a white folding Samsung, all of which were used to communicate with prospective migrant workers," said the Tanjungbalai Police Chief.
