PSG Is Getting Ahead In The French League Standings Thanks To Mbappe's Goal
JAKARTA - Leaders Paris St Germain (PSG) had to wait until the end when Kylian Mbappe scored three minutes into stoppage time to beat Rennes 1-0 in Ligue 1 on Saturday as reported by Reuters.
PSG, who host Real Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday, are now 16 points clear of second-placed Olympique de Marseille, who take on stumbling side Metz on Sunday, February 13.
Rennes were just three minutes short of becoming the second team to pick up points from PSG at the Parc des Princes this season but were caught up as they pushed forward and were punished by a quick counter-attack.
Lionel Messi fed Mbappe, who opened himself up to a leisurely conversion, having gone the closest to sealing victory for his side.
Mbappe's deflected shot hit the post just before half-time and he found the net midway through the second half but the effort was ruled out by VAR. Rennes remains in fifth place in the Ligue 1 standings.
