Team Manager Optimistic Team Indonesia Qualifies From The Group Stage Of The 2022 Asian Team Badminton Championships
JAKARTA – The Indonesian badminton team was immediately faced with a tough challenge since the group stage of the 2022 Asian Team Badminton Championships. Both the men's team and the women's team were in the same group with strong teams.
Team manager Harry Hartono said that even so, the Indonesian team was very ready to compete. He is also optimistic that Gregoria Mariska Tunjung and his friends can meet the target of qualifying for the group stage.
"We are optimistic that we can give the best. And when we talk about the initial target, it is to qualify from the group stage first," said Harry in an official statement received by VOI.
The draw on Tuesday, February 8 puts the men's team in Group A alongside South Korea, Hong Kong and India. Meanwhile, the women's team is in Z with South Korea, Hong Kong, and Kazakhstan.
Harry said that even though it was young players who were sent to the championship which became the Thomas and Uber Cup qualifiers, Indonesia still needed to be taken into account.
"We want to give our best and we can't be careless. Even though we are strengthened by young players, we feel that all opponents are still being taken into account," he said.
The Asian Team Badminton Championships will take place at the Setia City Convention Center, Selangor, Malaysia, on 15-20 February 2022. Indonesia comes with the status of defending champion in the men's sector.
The Indonesian team arrived in Kuala Lumpur on Monday, February 7 yesterday. They went straight to the inn and underwent a long quarantine for five days according to the regulations in force in the country.
Despite having to languish in a hotel room, Gregoria and his friends still held exercises independently based on the training materials provided by the trainer through videos distributed to WhatsApp groups.
