BPBD Recorded 1,407 Houses/Buildings In Bengkulu Was Submerged By Floods, Losses Reached Rp970 Million

BENGKULU - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) noted that floods that occurred in nine regencies/cities in Bengkulu Province since the night of Sunday, February 6 caused 1,407 houses/buildings to be inundated. Losses are estimated to touch Rp970 million.

Head of the Bengkulu Province BPBD Emergency Response Division, Khristian Hermansyah, said the flood had caused at least 679 houses of residents to be inundated in Bengkulu City. "In addition to houses, schools, public facilities, offices, and rice fields were also submerged," he said in Bengkulu City, Antara, Tuesday, February 8.

In North Bengkulu Regency, he continued, flooding caused 395 houses, two schools, four public facilities, a four-hectare pond and 87-hectare rice field to be inundated and three cows swept away.

A total of 89 houses and one village office in Central Bengkulu Regency as well as 85 houses and two offices in Seluma Regency were also inundated by the flood.

The flood caused one house to be lightly damaged in Central Bengkulu and resulted in seven houses being lightly damaged, two houses being moderately damaged, and a bridge being damaged in Seluma.

According to BPBD data, the flood caused 70 houses to be submerged and damaged three houses and a dam in Lebong Regency and caused 40 houses to be inundated and triggered landslides at three points in Kaur Regency.

In addition, the flood caused 33 houses to be inundated in South Bengkulu Regency and caused 15 houses and five vehicles to be submerged in Mukomuko Regency.

"Meanwhile, in Kepahiang Regency, there were two landslides," said Khristian.

Heavy rains in the Bengkulu Province have occurred since February 5, 2022. According to Kristian, residents affected by the floods currently need clean water, food supplies, and tents to evacuate.
