Ambushed From The Front, Farmers In South Aceh Reflex Tigers Use Palm Harvesting Tools
JAKARTA - A farmer in South Aceh Regency was reportedly attacked by a Sumatran tiger (Panthera tigiris) while in an oil palm plantation.
The Head of the Conservation Section for Region II Subulussalam BKSDA Aceh Hadi Sofyan said the victim Amrimus (67), a resident of Seulekat Village, Bakongan Timur District.
"The tiger attack occurred last Monday at 12.30 WIB. The victim was harvesting palm oil, suddenly a tiger came and attacked Amrimus from the front," said Hadi Sofyan in South Aceh, Antara, Tuesday, February 8.
As a result of the attack on protected animals, said Hadi Sofyan, the victim Amrimus suffered injuries to his right arm due to the tiger's claws. The victim has been treated at the nearest health facility.
"The victim had a reflex and hit the tiger with a palm harvesting tool, eventually the tiger ran away from him," said Hadi Sofyan.
After the incident, said Hadi Sofyan, the BKSDA team, the Leuser Conservation Forum (FKL) together with partners and the local community immediately took action to repel these protected animals.
"We have also installed trap cages to relocate the tigers. We urge the public to be aware of the presence of tigers and not to be alone in their activities in the garden," said Hadi Sofyan.
