Kartika Siti Aminah Makes History, Becomes The First Female Coach To Record Victory In IBL
JAKARTA – Bima Perkasa Jogja DNA trainer Kartika Siti Aminah has made history again. He got this record after bringing his team to victory over RANS PIK Basketball.
Kartika gave Bima Perkasa a 57-53 victory at C-Tra Arena Bandung on Tuesday, February 1. This result made the coach recorded in the history of Indonesian basketball as the first female coach to win in the men's professional league.
"Alhamdulillah, I am grateful to have been given the victory. The key is that the kids play hustle. Hopefully this will be a good start for the future," said the coach who is familiarly called Tika in an official IBL statement quoted by VOI.
Previously, Kartika was recorded in the history of Indonesian professional basketball as the first woman to become the head coach of a team participating in the highest Indonesian basketball league.
It happened when he was trusted to handle Bima Perkasa replacing his predecessor coach Dean Murray. Prior to becoming head coach, Kartika was first an assistant coach to Murray.
The position of assistant coach at Bima Perkasa has been obtained by Kartika since last season when the team was still being coached by coach David Singleton. In addition, in the same season he also formed Bima Perkasa after the departure of Raoul Miguel Hadinoto.
Kartika's first test while holding the position of Bima Perkasa was to face the Bandung Prawira on Sunday, January 30. At that time his team had to swallow defeat with a final score of 53-75.
Kartika has a wealth of coaching experience. He was noted to have coached the Gadjah Mada University (UGM) basketball team and the Yogyakarta Special Region PON (DIY) team.
In addition, she also successfully brought Surabaya Fever to win the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) in 2012.
Bima Perkasa will next face Pelita Jaya Bakrie on Thursday, February 3 and NSH Mountain Gold Timika on Saturday, February 5. Currently, Bima Perkasa Jogja's DNA is still in sixth position in the Red Division standings with a collection of seven points from six matches.
