Hundreds Of Police Secure Chinese New Year Celebration In Medan City To Make It Safe And Conducive

JAKARTA - A total of 435 personnel from the Medan City Police Resort, North Sumatra Police were deployed to secure the Lunar New Year celebrations in the local area on Tuesday.

"These hundreds of personnel are a combination of the Medan Polrestabes and the ranks of the police who are carrying out security for the 2573 Lunar New Year so that it runs safely, comfortably and conducively," said Head of the Public Relations Subsection of Medan Polrestabes Kompol Riama Siahaan, quoted from Antara, Saturday, February 1.

The hundreds of personnel were deployed in various locations which became the point of celebration of the Lunar New Year to anticipate disturbances in public order, street crimes, illegal levies and others.

In addition to deploying hundreds of personnel, he said, the Medan Polrestabes also established five security posts spread over a number of priority temples in Medan City.

He mentioned that the five pospams are on Jalan Imam Bonjol, Jalan Irian Barat, Jalan Hang Tuah, Cemara Asri Complex, and Jalan Jamin Ginting Sibolangit.

He appealed to the public to carry out worship while still implementing strict health protocols.

"The temple administrators are advised to provide a place for washing hands in front of the entrance and it is hoped that worship activities will be carried out alternately and maintain health procedures," he said.

Regardless of the series of efforts made, the community is expected to be able to reduce mobility during Chinese New Year celebrations in order to stop the spread of COVID-19.

"We urge the public to minimize mobility. If there are no activities that are not too important, it is better to stay at home," he also said.
