Komnas HAM Revealed Code Of Human Confinement Violence At Langkat Regent's House, From MOS To Half Button
JAKARTA - The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) has revealed its findings on allegations of violence experienced by occupants of human cages at the house of the Regent of Langkat.
One of them is the use of codes when acts of violence are committed against residents. Komnas HAM commissioner Choirul Anam said a pattern was found on how the abuse of residents who were claimed to be drug addicts occurred.
"We also found a pattern of how the violence took place. We also found who the perpetrator was, how, using the tools or not," said Choirul Anam in a video caption quoted on Monday, January 31.
"There sometimes use tools. This includes terms when violence takes place, for example, such as MOS, gas, or two and a half buttons. So there are terms like that which are used in the context of violence, the use of violence," he added.
Anam also said that when he came to the human cage, his condition was quite severe. He even said, what he witnessed was similar to prison.
In fact, due to the violence that occurred, there was more than one occupant of the human cage in the Terbit house who died. This certainty, said Anam, was obtained from the testimonies of the witnesses who had been interviewed.
"So a violent firm took place there, the victims were many, including violence that caused the loss of life and more than one of them lost their lives," he said. Furthermore, Anam said his party's findings were also in line with the findings of the North Sumatra Police. Even if there is a difference, he continued, it is only slight and this makes them exchange information with each other.
"The information regarding this violence is more or less the same. About the loss of life, more or less the same. Even between us and the regional police we share with different victims. This means that Komnas HAM did find it, the police also found it," said Anam.
"Therefore, we ask them to follow up, raising this to a legal process. Because indeed, yes, it is very close to a criminal incident," he added.
As previously reported, the existence of a human cage suspected of being a form of slavery at the home of the inactive Langkat Regent Terbit Angin Angin was revealed after the KPK came there to carry out a hand arrest operation (OTT).
Instead of finding Terbit, the KPK team found a number of people confined in an iron cage. At that time they claimed to be oil palm workers on Terbit's land.
Subsequently, this finding was reported by Migrant Care to Komnas HAM. Armed with reports from the community, they said that the occupants of the human cages received cruel behavior, including not being paid for working in Terbit's palm oil plantation.
In addition, they get violent until they are not given food regularly. Not only that, their access to communicate with outsiders is also limited.
