4.1 Magnitude Earthquake Shakes Dompu Region

MATARAM - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) stated that an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.1 was felt in the Dompu Regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Province, on Wednesday, January 1 or in early 2025.

"The impact of the earthquake that occurred at 09.44 WITA was based on public reports in the form of shocks felt in the areas of Dompu, Sumbawa and Bima," said Head of the Mataram Geophysics Station Ardhianto Septiadhi in a written statement in Mataram, Wednesday.

The results of the BMKG analysis show that this earthquake is located at coordinates 8.05 deg LS; 117.98 deg BT, or precisely located in the sea at a distance of 76 kilometers northwest of Dompu at a depth of 29 kilometers.

"The earthquake that occurred was a type of shallow earthquake due to fault activity on the back of Flores (Flores Back Arc Thrust)," he said.

Meanwhile, the results of the analysis of the source mechanism show that the earthquake has a thrust fault mechanism.

Currently, there are no reports of damage caused by the earthquake and it shows that this earthquake has no potential for a tsunami.

"The public is advised to remain calm and not be influenced by issues that cannot be justified," he said.
