iPhone 20 Will Come with a Futuristic Full Glass Design

JAKARTA - Apple is reportedly getting more serious about preparing the iPhone 20, a model that is projected to be a special edition to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the iPhone's presence. The latest rumor says that Apple's supply chain production facilities have completed the renovation process to support the manufacture of devices with a new design dominated by glass materials.

The information was revealed by a Chinese technology leaker with the account name Fixed Focus Digital through the Weibo platform. Although Apple has not given an official confirmation, this leak further strengthens rumors that the iPhone 20 will bring the biggest design change in the last decade.

According to Fixed Focus Digital, Apple chose to return to a glass-based design as the main approach for the 20th anniversary edition of the iPhone.

The device is said to carry a construction whose quality is close to the first generation of the iPhone Air, with a predominance of glass material on almost the entire body of the device.

The leaker also claimed that the related production facilities had completed the renovation process and were now just waiting for the start of the machining phase.

Although it did not mention the name of the supplier directly, a number of parties suspect that the facility is related to Lens Technology, a company that has been a supplier of iPhone protective glass and has taken over the metal frame assembly facility and the rear glass from Catcher Technology.

Still in the Production Preparation Stage

This report does not mean that the 20 iPhone has entered the mass production stage. Apple generally only starts full-scale production a few weeks before the launch of a product. For example, the iPhone 17 started trial production in June, while mass production is scheduled to take place in August before the official launch in September.

Thus, the renovation of production facilities more reflects the initial process of adjusting the manufacturing line to the new design that Apple will use in the coming years.

Full Glass Design Without Screen Hole

This latest leak is in line with an earlier report from Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman. According to Gurman, Apple is developing a 20th anniversary edition iPhone with a design dominated by curved glass on all sides of the device.

The concept is even said to no longer have a camera hole (cutout) on the screen so as to present a completely clean full screen display.

If the rumor comes true, the 20 iPhone could potentially be the most significant design change since Apple introduced the iPhone X in 2017.

Aluminum Still Used for Other Models

Interestingly, the Fixed Focus Digital also previously denied rumors that Apple would replace the aluminum material on the iPhone Pro line with liquid metal or a new generation of titanium alloy.

According to him, aluminum is still the most realistic choice because it is able to manage the heat generated by AI processing inside the device.

He even said that the aluminum frame design with flat sides will still be used for quite some time in regular iPhone models.

The statement opens up the possibility that the full glass design will only be applied to the iPhone 20 as an anniversary model, while the other iPhone line will still maintain a more conventional design.

Expected to Launch in 2027

Based on various leaks that have been circulating, Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 20 in the fall of 2027, coinciding with the two-decade anniversary since the first iPhone was introduced by Steve Jobs in 2007.

Previously, Apple was expected to release the iPhone 18, iPhone 18e, and iPhone Air 2 in 2027. Because the launch is still quite long, the final specifications and design of the iPhone 20 are still potentially subject to change during the development process.

However, various leaks that have emerged from the supply chain indicate that Apple seems to have taken the first steps to present a device that is not just a successor to the iPhone, but a symbol of design evolution during the product's 20-year journey. If all of these rumors prove true, the iPhone 20 has the potential to be one of the most important launches in Apple's history.
