JAKARTA - The Indonesian government through the Ministry of Communication and Digital has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Science and Information and Communication Technology of the Republic of Korea in the digital sector.

Minister of Communication and Information Meutya Hafid said that this collaboration will focus on improving the quality of public services, strengthening data security, and developing artificial intelligence (Al) talent.

"Through this collaboration, the government targets an increase in the quality of the digital network, including the development of next-generation communication technology. People will experience a more stable internet connection for schools, health services, and business activities," he said.

On the public protection side, cooperation includes strengthening supervision of the digital space and data security. The public will receive stronger protection from data leaks and misuse of information.

This cooperation also includes a digital literacy program to improve people's ability to use technology safely and productively.

"We want people to feel the results directly. The Internet must be more stable for learning and working. Personal data must be more secure. Public services must be more accessible," said Meutya.

He added that the development of artificial intelligence is not only limited to technology, but must answer the needs of strategic sectors. The utilization of AI will later be directed to education, health, and food.

"Technology must help teachers teach, help health workers work faster, and help farmers make decisions," he said.

In the economic sector, this cooperation opens opportunities for digital business actors and startups through strengthening the ecosystem and collaboration with the private sector.

Meanwhile, on the human resources side, Indonesia will carry out training, scholarship, and exchange of expert programs. This program targets an increase in the number of AI talent and advanced technology ready to enter the industry.

This cooperation also includes the utilization of AI infrastructure such as high-performance computing to support domestic research and development of technology.

This cooperation is valid for five years and will be translated into concrete cross-sectoral programs such as education, health, and digital economy.
