JAKARTA - Nike said it was investigating a suspected data leak, after a ransomware group claimed to have leaked a large amount of the company's internal data.
Where a ransomware group called World Leaks, claimed to have published around 1.4 terabytes of data belonging to Nike related to the company's business operations.
In its official statement, the company confirmed that it always prioritizes the security of its customer data.
"We take consumer privacy and data security very seriously," Nike said in a statement, citing Reuters. "We are investigating the potential for a cyber security incident and are actively assessing the situation."
Although there has been no verification of the truth of the allegations, Nike declined to disclose details of the investigation, including the possibility of paying a ransom to the hackers.
Until now, it is not known whether the data leak has also impacted Nike's major retail partners such as Dick's Sporting Goods, Macy's, and JD Sports. The three companies have not given an official response to the news.
The incident comes amid Nike's efforts to reverse a business performance that has been under pressure due to losing market share to smaller competitors. However, Nike shares were reported to be relatively stable in early trading this week.
