JAKARTA - In the midst of a legal debate between OpenAI and Elon Musk, the owner of xAI, ChatGPT, took an unusual step. The Artificial Intelligence (AI) chatbot took information from Grokipedia.

Grokipedia is an encyclopedia with conservative ideology developed by xAI. This online encyclopedia was released last October to compete with Wikipedia, an information provider considered biased by Musk.

Since its release, Grokipedia has received a lot of attention for making extreme claims with derogatory terms in its articles. Therefore, the adoption of information from Grokipedia is also a concern.

The latest report from The Guardian, as reported by TechCrunch, states that the GPT-5.2 model cites Grokipedia as many as nine times. Although not confirmed directly, OpenAI has provided an explanation regarding the selection of their data.

"We aim to take information from a variety of publicly available sources and perspectives," an OpenAI spokesperson said, quoted on Monday, January 26.

Interestingly, ChatGPT does not cite Grokipedia for major topics that have been proven to be inaccurate. Citations only appear on uncommon topics, including topics that have previously been publicly refuted.

The use of Grokipedia as a source of information is not only found in ChatGPT. Other AI services such as Anthropic's Claude also cite the platform to answer certain questions.

It was not explained what kind of information Claude took from Grokipedia. There is also no information about how many citations were taken by Claude from the Conservative encyclopedia.
