Jakarta - YouTube Music is facing a wave of complaints from paying customers who feel their personal recommendation system has been "ruined" by artificial intelligence (AI) slop music. This complaint is widely discussed on Reddit, where users claim to continue to be offered AI songs from unknown artists with generic titles, even after being marked as "Not Interested".

This problem comes in the middle of YouTube Music's position as the second largest music streaming service in the world after Spotify. Many users pay for subscriptions just for music recommendations that are relevant and in line with taste. However, the report quoted by PiunikaWeb shows that YouTube Music's algorithm now prioritizes AI music content that is considered to have minimal quality and artistic context.

Users say the songs usually come from anonymous accounts with very large catalogs, generic song titles, and a uniform-sounding musical style. Users' attempts to hit the dislike or "not interested" button are said to be ineffective. Blocked songs are often replaced by other AI tracks that are almost identical, even from the same "shadow" artist, and continue to appear in subsequent autoplay sessions.

Another complaint said the YouTube Music system only deleted one song, not its source or recommendation pattern. As a result, the listening experience feels like being stuck in a loop of synthetic music without an end. For paying customers, this is considered a fundamental failure of the promised service.

This phenomenon is not the first time it has occurred in the streaming industry. Spotify has also been highlighted for a similar issue, albeit on a quieter scale. To date, Google has not given an official statement regarding the complaints of YouTube Music users.

As AI-based music production becomes easier, the pressure on streaming platforms to differentiate human and machine works is increasing. Without clear screening mechanisms, algorithms risk prioritizing volume and low cost over quality and relevance. The most realistic solution, according to users, is the option to explicitly filter or disable AI content.

If not addressed immediately, this issue has the potential to erode customer trust. In an era where personalization is the main selling point, recommendations that feel "fake" can actually be the reason people press the unsubscribe button.
