JAKARTA - Users of the first generation Starlink router will receive the latest router for free from SpaceX. The replacement of this router is carried out because the first generation router will enter retirement.

The first-generation router was released in 2020. Now, the router is considered obsolete so SpaceX plans to stop supporting its software in the near future.

Instead, SpaceX is offering a Starlink Mini Router that supports Wi-Fi 6 technology at no cost. This new device promises much faster performance and more stable signal coverage.

In its official email, SpaceX provided an explanation for the reason behind this policy change. The company wants to ensure that all its customers receive the best and safest service for a long time.

"As a thank you for being a loyal customer, we're offering you a free Mini Router, a dual-band router with Wi-Fi 6," SpaceX wrote in an email, quoted from PC Mag Friday, December 19.

Customers can actually still use the old router even though support for the update has been discontinued. However, SpaceX warns of security risks and performance degradation that will haunt devices that do not receive the latest patch.

The process of installing the new Mini Router is claimed to be easy even when paired with the first generation circular antenna. The company has provided a complete technical guide to guide users in transmitting their devices.
