Threads Adds Community Counts and Tests New Badges to Compete with Reddit

Threads, a platform integrated with Instagram, has added to its community. This addition of topics is done to encourage more interaction on the platform.

Initially, this platform under the auspices of Meta only had 100 communities in October 2025. These communities cover topics such as K-pop, books, and sports. With this latest expansion, the communities on Threads now reach 200 topics.

This community addition includes a dedicated space for sports teams such as Lakers Threads, Knicks Threads, and Spurs Threads. In addition to adding topics, Threads is also actively testing a new feature known as flair within the community.

With this feature, users can use customizable labels. These labels will appear under the username. Seeing how common this feature is on Reddit, Meta seems to want to encourage Threads to compete with that platform.

For example, users in the NBA community can use flair to show which team they support. In the book community, users can use labels to show their identity as a writer or reader of a particular genre.

Threads is also testing a special badge called 'Champion' to reward the most active members of the community. Meta said that this badge is only given to a small number of selected users.

The badge recipient must have active interaction and have many followers within the community. However, it is unclear whether this badge can only be given to one person or to several people who meet the requirements.
