SEEK Reveals Work Fraud Mode: From Like-Subscribe To Fake Deposit

JAKARTA - A finding from the SEEK, the parent company from Jobstreet 'leading job search platform' states that Indonesia is listed as the largest job vacancy fraud hotspot in Asia Pacific.

Data shows that 38% of all fraud attempts in the Asia Pacific region are in Indonesia. In addition, 62% of the total job vacancies fraud in the Asian region also occurred in Indonesia.

With the development of artificial intelligence (AI), SEEK sees how fraudsters use AI to create more sophisticated scams.

In addition, they also often disguise themselves as professional job seekers platforms such as Jobstreet and contact candidates via SMS, chat applications, and social media platforms.

In Indonesia, fraudsters actively contact candidates through chat or social media applications. The most popular mode is the "easy" part-time job offer, such as assigning "like/subscribe" tasks to social media content.

This fraud pattern often begins with a small commission transfer to build trust, but then continues with a scheme requiring victims to make deposits or top-ups, which in the end these funds cannot be returned.

To counter this growing threat, SEEK and Jobstreet continue to improve their fraud detection mechanisms, such as automated blocking systems and updated verification processes.

The company is also working closely with government and non-governmental institutions to facilitate the exchange of intelligence knowledge and information.

In addition, the Jobstreet by SEEK system also managed to scan 100% of the 4.3 million vacancies ads uploaded throughout Asia Pacific (APAC), of which 8% were forwarded for manual scanning during the first fiscal year of 2025.

The SEEK also managed to prevent around 3,600 recruiters who did not pass the onboarding process assessment from being included in the SEEK platform, closed about 650 recruiters with indications of fraud, and removed nearly 2,800 high-risk job vacancies after further investigations.
