Estonia Brings Advanced Technology To Accelerate Indonesia's Maritime Transformation

JAKARTA - The government of Estonia affirms its commitment to strengthening cooperation with Indonesia in 2026, focusing on maritime innovation, digital transformation, and cybersecurity.

This priority begins with the diplomatic appointment of the Estonian Ambassador to Indonesia, Veikko Kala, which has brought together a number of ministries, state-owned enterprises, and national strategic partners.

During the meeting, the two countries discussed collaboration opportunities ranging from digital port development, logistical efficiency, underwater infrastructure protection, to modernizing the national digital system.

Indonesia is one of the most important maritime countries in the world. Estonia sees a lot of harmony, especially in digital port innovation, sustainability, and logistics efficiency," Veikko Kala said in a statement quoted on Sunday, November 23.

One of the biggest focuses in this collaboration is in the maritime sector. Where Estonia will carry smart port technology that has been implemented in Port of Tallinn, one of the most digital ports in Northern Europe.

These solutions include:

Cyber Defense Expertise: Estonia brings experience from NATO Cooperative Cyber Defense Center of Excellence, including simulations of attacks, maritime network protection, and the security of digital infrastructure

The implementation of this system at Tallinn is proven to cut vehicle queue times and check-in processes by more than 50 percent, and save up to 320,000 hours of humans per year.

As home to NATO Cooperative Cyber Defense Center of Excellence, through this collaboration, Estonia will also share expertise in protecting digital and maritime infrastructure.

Estonia emphasized that its digital, maritime, and cyber capabilities are very relevant to Indonesia's national priorities, including improving inter-island logistics, integrating the Pelindo post-merger port system, protecting underwater infrastructure, and modernizing shipping networks throughout the archipelago.
