JAKARTA - In the context of International Fraud Awareness Week, SEEK, the parent company that oversees Jobstreet and Jobsdb, released the latest findings regarding the trend of fraud in the world of work in the Asia Pacific region.
This report reveals how the perpetrators of work fraud (scammer) are increasingly sophisticated in adjusting their tactics to local work market conditions and the economic needs of the community.
SEK detected various frauds during the period July 2024 to June 2025, where the perpetrators took advantage of different targeting strategies in six Asian countries where SEK operates, namely Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand.
Data shows that Indonesia is listed as the country with the largest job vacancy fraud rate in Asia Pacific, with 38 percent of all fraud attempts in the Asia Pacific region.
In addition, 62 percent of the total job vacancy fraud in the Asian region also occurred in Indonesia.
Followed by the Philippines as the second largest target with a portion of 20 percent.
We see that fraudsters are now increasingly sophisticated in targeting each different market. They adjust their approach to each country and target the type of job seekers in demand in the region," said Tom Rhind, Head of Trust & Safety SEEK.
Based on SEEK data, the most detected work category as a fraud target in Indonesia as of October 2025, includes:
In the Administration & Office Support category, the most often targeted types of jobs are online store admins, e-commerce admins, and entry data.
Meanwhile, in the Manufacturing category, Transport & Logistics, many frauds take advantage of the lure of high salaries or job opportunities abroad.
