ChatGPT Experiences Decreased Number Of Users And Daily Downloads On Mobile Devices

JAKARTA ChatGPT mobile application growth is known to have decreased. This can be seen in the results of the latest analysis conducted by Apptopia, an application intelligence company.

Apptopia data shows that ChatGPT has decreased the number of downloads over the past few times. In addition, the number of daily active users of the application has also decreased.

This decline has occurred globally since April 2025. Although the percentage of global Daily Active Users (DAU) for the ChatGPT application has been seen flat for the past month, Apptopia estimates the figure will drop.

They estimate there will be a decrease of 8.1 percent in the change in the percentage of downloads globally compared to the previous month. This is based on the declining metric of the use of ChatGPT in the US.

The average time that DAU spent in the US has decreased by 22.5 percent since July 2025. This decline was also followed by the average metric of the DAU session in the US which also decreased by 20.7 percent. This shows that users in the US rarely open ChatGPT per day.

This decline in user numbers is based on two things, namely competition and changes in AI model characteristics. Although Gemini has been popular lately due to his photo editing ability, Apptopia notes that this decline started before Gemini's spike.

ChatGPT's response changes since it was updated in April 2025 are considered to have played a role. The reason is, this chatbot has become more 'floating' than before. This is also realized by Sam Altman as the leader of OpenAI, the company that developed ChatGPT.

Despite the decline, the fact is that ChatGPT is still one of the chatbots with the highest number of users. However, OpenAI still has to find ways to keep its number of users in order to keep competing with Gemini.
