Hypertension Monitoring Now Available To Apple Watch Users In Canada

JAKARTA - Starting October 8, 2025, Apple Watch users in Canada can activate hypertension notifications, a feature that has been available in more than 150 countries worldwide. This feature allows early detection of signs of high blood pressure, which is a major risk factor for heart attacks, strokes, and kidney disease.

Apple Watch Series 9 or later users, as well as Apple Watch Ultra 2 or later, can enable hypertension notifications through the Health app on iPhone. However, Apple Watch SE, including Apple Watch SE 3, does not support this feature.

How Hypertension Monitoring Works

This feature uses optical cardiac sensor on Apple Watch to track blood vessel responses to each heart rate. Monitoring is carried out in the background by analyzing data for 30 days to detect consistent signs of high blood pressure. If a hypertension indication is found, users will receive warnings to take action, such as adjusting lifestyles or consulting a doctor.

How To Enable Hypertension Monitoring

The hypertension notification is not active by default and must be activated manually. Here are the steps:

This feature is only available to users aged at least 22 who have not been diagnosed with hypertension before. Pregnant women are advised to disable this feature, as Apple Watch cannot detect hypertension during pregnancy or pre-eclampsia.

Not Blood Pressure Measurement

It is important to note that hypertension monitoring is not a direct blood pressure measurement. This feature monitors physical changes in blood vessels over a certain period of time, similar to the Sleep Apnea detection feature. Hypertension notification is not an official diagnosis, but is a signal for self-examination to a doctor.

With the presence of this feature in Canada, Apple continues to expand efforts to support user health through their wearable technology.
