JAKARTA - Canadian airline WestJet confirmed that some of the personal data of its passengers had been exposed due to the cyber hacking incident that occurred earlier this year. The company confirmed that no payment data was leaked in the hack.
WestJet said suspicious activity was first detected on June 13, 2025. After an investigation, it was found that their system had been illegally accessed by a third party described as a criminal group with advanced capabilities.
The types of data exposed vary, including names, contact details, travel information, and documents related to reservation. Even so, financial data such as credit and debit card numbers, expiration date, and CVV code are confirmed to be safe.

"No payment information has been stolen," said the airline in its official statement.
The aviation industry itself has recently become an easy target for hacker groups, given its dependence on complex digital systems and large amounts of passenger data storage.
The case of a ransomware attack against Collins Aerospace, a subsidiary of RTX, which had paralyzed check-in and baggage services at Europe's main airports, is one example.
In an official notification to Americans on Monday, WestJet said it had cooperated with various parties, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Canadian Center for Cyber Security. The airline also reported the case to the authorities, including the US state attorney general whose citizens were affected.
