JAKARTA Mac users now don't really believe in the built-in security of their devices. This can be seen in Moonlock's 2025 Mac Security Survey, MacPaw's cybersecurity division.

Of the 2,000 respondents, only 15 percent still believe macOS is immune to malware. This percentage has dropped dramatically from 2023, where at that time there were still 28 percent of users who believed in Mac immunity.

This decline is supported by reports of increasing cyber threats. There are 66 percent of Mac users reported to have faced at least one cyber threat in the past year. This threat includes malware, phishing, and data breaches.

In addition to increasing awareness of direct threats, this report also highlights the growing anxiety about Artificial Intelligence (AI). 72 percent of respondents said they were worried that AI could trigger an increase in cyber threats.

Moonlock also found that confidence in Apple's built-in protection had declined. Nearly half of Mac users, or about 46 percent, said they needed additional security software because macOS was not secure enough.

Although awareness of cyber threats continues to increase, there is a gap that still needs to be overcome. As many as 64 percent of users still believe that software alone can fully protect them from cyber threats.
