JAKARTA China made a new breakthrough by developing Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology that can mimic the way the human brain works. This AI model is named the SpikingBrain-7B.
This technology was developed by Brain-Inspired Computing Lab (BICLab) from the Academy of Sciences in China. With this brain neuron imitation capability, SpakingBrain-7B can reduce energy consumption automatically so that it is more efficient.
SpinkingBrain-7B uses a spiking neural network, a system that is only active when needed, similar to biological neurons. This makes the technology much more efficient in generating energy than other AI models.
This AI model runs on top of a domestic or locally made Chinese processor called MetaX. The processor also helps SpikingBrain-7B in reducing energy usage excessively. This capability shows that China has succeeded in making more powerful technology without relying on foreign technology.
If SpikingBrain-1.0 is called tens of times faster than the AI model running the Transformer infrastructure, such as ChatGPT, SpikingBrain-7B actually offers a higher speed. In completing a long series of data, the speed can reach 100 times faster than other models.

Along with SpikingBrain-1.0, SpicingBrain-7B has been released in the form of open sources on GitHub. Now, developers can try the AI model directly and see how sophisticated the technology is that imitates how the brain works.
Although this technology is promising, the development of the SpikingBrain-7B still has challenges. The technical paper states that the CUDA and Triton operators on this model require adaptation. Training on the MetaX cluster also requires special optimization.
