JAKARTA OpenAI officially acquired Statsig, a startup engaged in product testing. This acquisition costs $1.1 billion in share deals.

As part of this acquisition, Statsig Founder and CEO Vijaye Raji will join OpenAI as CTO App. This is one of the biggest acquisitions made by ChatGPT developers.

This agreement shows OpenAI's efforts to strengthen their AI application business. While joining OpenAI, Raji will lead a product engineering team for ChatGPT and other AI-based tools under the company.

The Statsig founder will report directly to Fidji Simo, the former CEO of Instacart who recently also joined OpenAI. By acquiring a number of technology companies, OpenAI wants to accelerate the development of their products.

After Raji joined, the leadership team at OpenAI also changed. OpenAI Product Head Kevin Weil announced that he would lead a new group called OpenAI for Science to build an AI-powered platform that could accelerate scientific discoveries.

"I can do this because product and design leaders at OpenAI are amazing and now I am assisted by Fidji Simo who started his role as Application CEO," Weil said, citing from his post on LinkedIn on Wednesday, September 3.

Despite being acquired by OpenAI, Statsig will continue to operate independently from its Seattle office. They will continue to serve its customer base. Once the acquisition regulations are approved, all Statsig employees will become OpenAI employees.
