JAKARTA TikTok announced an update on its security and well-being features on its platform. Through this update, parents and adolescents will get better visibility and settings.

Now, TikTok is offering Family Pairing with a new feature that can notify parents or guardians regarding their child's monitored activities. They will get a notification automatically when teenagers upload videos, stories, or photos.

In addition, parents and guardians can see content settings selected by teens, such as whether their content can be downloaded or can be downloaded. This feature is only available to children aged 16 and 17 years and is blocked for younger users.

"In addition, the features we previously announced, which allow teens to tell their parents if they report videos on TikTok, are now available globally," TikTok said, quoted on Thursday, July 31. "Parents will not see the specific content reported."

Next, TikTok provides the ability to view 10 Popular Topics selected by users. This feature is available on Family Pairing in Topic Governance capabilities. That way, parents and guardians can find out what type of content is recommended to teenagers.

"With the increased visibility of content preferences, families can connect through topics they are interested in on TikTok, as well as interesting and inspiring content and creators," TikTok said.

The new blocking control feature has also been added to Family Pairing, where parents can now directly block certain accounts. This feature will be launched for the first time in Europe. There is no information on when the feature will be extended to other countries.
