London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) explained its vision of what the face of rail transportation will look like in 2075, where travel is not only fast and efficient, but also a comprehensive experience to support the health and comfort of passengers.
In the concept of Train of the Future which was released to coincide with the celebration of 200 years of modern railways, LNER envisions a major evolution in the world of transportation that includes windows from floor to ceiling, sleeping capsules (nap pods), to treadmill seats that passengers can use while still sitting in their seats.

The physical ticket will be replaced with a facial recognition system that allows automatic access without having to pass the ticketstop. Meanwhile, the follow-up journey after getting off the train will be facilitated by a personal travel pod' that picks up passengers directly on the platform.
For passengers with special needs such as people with neurodivergens, LNER also imagines a special area designed to be calmer and sensoryly friendly.
In this 2075 scenario, even the process of heading to the train will be easier. Passengers will use smart glasses that display light arrows to guide them to the platform. Travel announcements are no longer delivered via station loudspeakers, but are sent directly to each passenger's personal device.
According to futurologist and tech expert Tom Cheesewright in collaboration with LNER, the future of train travel is a combination of technological innovation with a deep understanding of human needs.
"The future train will be an experience from start to finish that is completely smooth, assisted by AI, without physical tickets, and a large window connecting us with the outside world," Cheeseright was quoted as saying by the VOI from the Daily Mail.
The form will be like something from the world of science fiction: aerodynamics, quiet, and highly empowered, but still connected to nature and the digital world.
Cheeseright also estimates that travel speeds will increase significantly thanks to the development of more aerodynamic rail shapes, the use of quantum computing, and the application of artificial intelligence in operational planning.
Train materials will use lighter but stronger and stiff 3D printed materials, allowing trains to travel faster with more efficient energy consumption.

Rachel Pope, Head of the LNER Digital Experience Strategy, said that her party wanted to continue to be at the forefront of railway innovation.

"Starting from increasing travel views, technological innovation in convenience and catering, to a huge push for sustainability, all of these possibilities are very exciting," Pope said.
The "Train of the Future" visualization prototype will be exhibited live at London King's Cross Station from July 30 to August 1, 2025.
