JAKARTA Many platforms have started to replace their workforce with Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology, but not with Wkipedia. This digital encyclopedia will not replace humans.

The Wikimedia Foundation, the Wikipedia owner, stated that it will prioritize the use of AI. However, this technology will only be used to build features that can eliminate technical barriers so that workers can focus on other things.

"Humans at the core of Wikipedia can spend their valuable time on what they want to achieve, and not on how to achieve it technically. Our investment will focus on certain areas where AI is a superior generative," Wikimedia explained, quoted on Saturday, May 3.

Wikimedia also detailed what they would do with AI. The organization will support the moderator and patrol system on Wikipedia, support editors in finding the latest information, and improve acceptance of Wikipedia volunteers.

"We are confident that our cooperation with AI in the future will succeed not only because of what we are doing, but also how we do it. Our efforts will use the values, principles, and policies that we have long held," said Wikimedia.

Wikimedia stressed that they will take human-centered approaches and prioritize their actions. The organization will also prioritize the use of transparency open-source AI.

Wikipedia will continue to be run and developed by humans even though Wikimedia has started switching to AI. This is done to appreciate the performance of editors and volunteers over the last 25 years.

"Editor Wikipedia has researched, negotiated, discussed, built consensus, and collaboratively wrote the largest equator ever in the world. Their concern and commitment to reliable environmentalology knowledge is something AI cannot replace," said Wikimedia.
