US Bitcoin Reserves Are In The Spotlight, OJK Focuses On Strengthening Indonesian Crypto Security

JAKARTA - Financial Services Authority (OJK) Hasan Fawzi said the government would continue to monitor the global crypto ecosystem, including the new US policy of creating Bitcoin reserves.

According to the Chief Executive of the Financial, Financial Assets, and OJK Crypto Assets Technology Innovation Supervision, Hasan Fawzi, the supervision of crypto assets is still in a tight corridor.

The government also continues to strive to maintain a balance between innovation and security in the trading of crypto assets, especially in terms of governance, risk mitigation, and consumer protection.

"The government supports and continues to strive to maintain the development of the domestic crypto ecosystem in the corridor of monitoring the implementation of good governance, adequate risk mitigation in line with the fulfillment of aspects of consumer protection," Hasan said in a written statement.

He also revealed that the contribution of the crypto industry to state revenues continues to show a positive trend. Based on data from the Directorate General of Taxes (DJP), until 2024 the crypto ecosystem has contributed Rp620 billion in tax form.

Hasan also considered that this figure would continue to increase if aspects of security, transparency in the trade system, and consumer protection were further strengthened in the future.

"This contribution can be maintained and even improved with the support of the security and transparency aspects of the trading system as well as strengthening aspects of consumer protection," he said.

Meanwhile, on the other hand, US President Donald Trump's decision to back up Bitcoin appears to provide a bit of positive sentiment to the Bitcoin trend.

For example, entering Ramadan 2025, the crypto market faces different dynamics. Bitcoin had experienced a surge of up to 8 percent in one day, returning to the 90,000 dollar level after previously slumping to below 80,000 US dollars.

According to INDODAX CEO Oscar Darmawan, this sharp recovery was driven by positive sentiment regarding US President Donald Trump's plan to propose national crypto reserves.
