TikTok Introduces STEM Feed In Indonesia, Collaborates With Education Creators

JAKARTA TikTok officially introduced the STEM feed, a special forum for accessing educational content, in Indonesia. This new feed will feature Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics content.

The feed was first introduced last October as a default feed for children under the age of 18, but can only be accessed in the US, UK, and Ireland. Seeing the successful launch of the feed, TikTok has finally expanded its features.

This launch is based on a large teenage interest in STEM content. Every week, 25 percent of teenagers around the world are actively visiting the feed. STEM content has also increased by 35 percent in recent months.

The presence of the STEM feed in Indonesia is also considered a positive step according to Angga Anugrah Putra, General Manager of Content Operations Southeast Asia TikTok. This feed is also part of TikTok's commitment to empowering children's knowledge easily.

"This (feed) is also expected to provide a special space for the educational content-loving community that is very dynamic and with great interest in learning, with high experimental interest, to find each other, interact, and also share with each other on TikTok," Angga said at the soft launch feed STEM on Wednesday, March 5.

For now, the STEM feed can only be accessed by a small number of users because TikTok is still rolling out the feature in stages. This feed will actually be available on the main page of TikTok in the coming weeks.

Angga explained that creators or publishers can upload videos on the feed, but with strict rules. They can only create content with a clear purpose, provide an in-depth explanation, and can be proven or verified.

TikTok also has strict rules regarding content in the STEM feed. By setting content types that can and cannot be published, young people can access useful content. Here are some types of content that are prohibited on the STEM feed.

By applying this limit, TikTok can manage the content available on its platform. Angga also promises a strict moderation process so that prohibited types of content will not pass easily.
