JAKARTA - The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) revealed on Wednesday 26 February that North Korea was responsible for the theft of virtual assets worth about 1.5 billion US dollars (Rp 24.6 trillion) from the crypto exchange platform ByBit.

In a statement, the FBI called this malicious cyber activity a "TraderTraitor."

"Traditor Traders are moving quickly and have converted some of the stolen assets into bitcoins and other virtual assets spread across thousands of addresses across various blockchains," the FBI said in its public service announcement.

The FBI also expects that the asset will continue to be laundered and eventually converted into fiat currency.

Meanwhile, ByBit on Friday, February 21 revealed that a hacker managed to take over the platform's ether wallet and transfer its contents to an unknown address.

ByBit itself is a platform that serves more than 60 million users worldwide and provides access to various cryptocurrencies, including bitcoin and ether.
