Apple's Folding IPhone Screen May Not Experience Folds After Use

JAKARTA The latest report from the supply chain claims that Apple has managed to overcome the folding problems that usually occur on folding phone screens. This happened ahead of the launch of the iPhone Fold, which is expected to be released in 2026.

Although many reports predict that Apple will not launch a folding iPhone before 2027, sources from ETNews state that the company will soon select a screen supplier. The report also claims that the iPhone Fold will have little or even no folds on its screen.

So far, all folding screens are eventually folding after they are often opened and closed. This happens because screen material, including glass, is experiencing structural fatigue (fatigue failure), similar to when someone folds aluminum cans many times to tear.

However, according to industry sources, Apple has ambitions to get rid of this problem. "To distinguish itself from existing foldable phones, Apple decided to remove the fold without caring about the price," the source said.

Production Begins At The End Of 2025, Launches In 2026

Based on information from suppliers, the report also states that folding iPhone production will begin in the second half of 2025, with launch expected to take place in the second half of 2026, possibly alongside the iPhone 18 series.

Although Apple has yet to determine the screen supplier, the report estimates that Samsung Display will most likely get an order. Samsung Display is said to have been developing folding screens for iPhones since 2024.

In addition, the foldable iPhone is also said to use a hinge mechanism developed by the company Amphenol, which previously supplied components for MacBook Air.

IPhone Rumors And Future Folding

Sources from ETNews are not always accurate in reporting industrial information. However, the patent filed by Apple since 2024 shows that the company has indeed researched folding screen technology.

Rumors about the foldable iPhone have emerged since 2019, when Samsung released its first foldable phone. The latest, doubtful report also states that the iPhone Fold will have a 7.74-inch screen when it opens.

If this report is true, then Apple has the potential to bring new innovations in the folding phone market with a longer-lasting screen without any folding problems.
